Thursday was a fun day. First we went for a walk in Ft. Collins. Esme got her diaper changed in the stroller. She didn't like that very much.
Later, we went to a Colorado Rockies game. Esme did pretty well on the drive to Denver. There was one spot on the road where she cried and was really inconsolable, but it only lasted about 10 minutes, then she was fine. We wondered if it was due to a change in altitude. It didn't seem like there was a huge change between Ft. Collins and Denver, but my ears popped, so I'm sure hers did too.
When we got to the game, we had to park a million miles away. But it was nice to get a break from sitting and get a little walk in even if it was already getting really warm out. As we started our walk, this elderly guy asked us if we wanted to buy tickets from him. I think initially Aaron and I were both a little skeptical. But the guy said that he was with a group of seniors and they had two people no show. The tickets were $37 normally, but they get them for $10. Then he said "and they're in the shade!". That sold us.
The seats ended up being great! They were in the shade which also turned out to be nice when it started raining because we were covered. They were in right field which was great because we could see the Rocky Mountains in the background. I think Esme had a good time. She was awake the whole time and not at all crabby about it! I couldn't believe it. The only thing that she didn't like was the noise. Seniors can cheer - LOUD! And they know their baseball! Every time something good happened and they cheered Esme would get this furrowed brow and look like she was going to cry. So we started covering up her ears whenever we knew they were going to cheer. She didn't really like that either but it seemed to help a bit.
After we left the game and drove out of the parking lot, we saw this really cool bike outside of an art studio near Coors Field.
Finally, we drove back to Ft. Collins. Esme had a really fussy spot again in about the same place on the road where she was crying on the way to Denver. We stopped and tried to feed her, change her diaper, etc. But nothing seemed to help. Finally we just got in the car and drove. Eventually, she was ok again. I don't know if it was a specific spot on the road where the altitude was just so that it caused her ears to pop? Regardless, it wasn't fun.
When we got back to Ft. Collins we went to the area of Old Town and walked around a bit. We went to a restaurant called Rio Grande and had a nice dinner and a margarita. We didn't take Esme's car seat in so we took turns holding her.
Then we got an ice cream cone from the Walrus ice cream shop. Penny and Todd took me there the last time I was in town. Yummy. We walked around for a little while longer and then headed back to the motel. Esme was super tired. She had been awake most of the day! She slept great that night! So did Mom and Dad! :)
