Play date with Morgan

Esme has a new friend from gym.  Her name is Morgan and yesterday we had a play date with her.  First we went to the park.  Morgan had a bike and Esme rode a borrowed tricycle that was a little too small for her.  But the girls made it all the way to the park and back on their "wheels". :)
When we got back to Morgan's house the girls (and the moms) at a great lunch.  Thanks Josephine!  After that it was outside to ride in another kind of "wheels".
The girls took turns driving and it's safe to say that Esme is not quite ready for the road.  It's particularly funny to me that she leans to try to help herself steer.  Right into the grass that is...
Luckily, Morgan was a great sport and didn't seem to mind Esme's "off roading".

Hopefully, when the day comes for Esme to ask for a car she won't remember that the first car that she ever drove was a Mercedes Benz.  God help us all!

March???

It's been a crazy warm winter.  And this week we went straight into summer.  It's been in the 70's for the last several days.

Aaron turned on the water in the back yard this weekend and Esme loves nothing better than watering flowers (even though there aren't any right now), and playing with and drinking out of the water hose.

Here she is watering still dead flowers.
And drinking.
And generally dowsing herself.
But holy cow!  Isn't she the cutest thing!
Summer, we're glad you're here.  Hope you stay awhile.

Family night

We went out for Thai food last night.  Esme loves it.  She's a pretty picky eater right now, but it's perfect because we order her a side of white rice and a side of steamed chicken and she is thrilled.  Eats it right up!  Believe it or not, she even eats Jalapeno poppers with us.  If you don't know what they are, they're cream cheese wantons with jalapenos in them.  Only the best thing ever.

Before we ate, we ran to REI to pick up a couple of things and Esme found a new hat that she picked out herself and loves.  It just happened to match her outfit. Despite our best efforts (j/k) she's kind of turning into a little fashionista.
The next pictures are my favorites.  Please ignore their blurriness.  It was dark in the restaurant and for whatever reason, I have the one iphone in the world that takes crappy pictures.  Esme decided that she wanted to try chopsticks.  They have little "helpers" for kids that hold the chopsticks together.  She didn't do too bad for her first time.

She starts off great with the chopsticks, but ultimately the hands still work the best. :)  She did great though and didn't even get any food on her outfit!  And since Thai is Aaron's and my favorite, she will have plenty of time to practice with those chopsticks in the future, possibly with a new hat on.

Go Gophers

Friday night we went over to our friend's (Kim and Ken) house.  They are huge Gopher fans and had everyone over to watch them play the Sioux.  It started out just fine with the Gophers scoring the first 3 goals.

But it all went downhill from there.  There were some of us watching the game upstairs and some people were watching the game downstairs.  Esme got quite the workout going between the groups.  After the Sioux had scored a few times, someone did this to poor Esme.
Unfortunately, the Gophers never came back, but even so Esme was able to let her natural colors shine through. :)
We even taught her who the Gopher's coach is.  Go ahead, ask her... :)

The refinishing of a dresser... maybe.

A couple of months I came across a dresser for free on Craigslist.  I've been wanting to refinish a piece of furniture for awhile and I thought this would be my chance.  And who can beat free right?  If I completely ruin it, we have firewood for the fire pit.

I forgot to take a real 'before' picture, but here's a couple that will give you an idea of what it looks like.
I really like the size and the details of this dresser.  I love that it's simple but just a little bit unique.  But just in case you can't tell from the pictures, it's Crazy Cobalt Blue.  And there are about 30 coats of paint.

My Dad was here this weekend and helped me get started getting the paint off.  But let me tell you, this is likely going to be a project that takes all summer.  We'll see if I'm cut out for it. :)

Here's my inspiration.  I think this would look just wonderful in Esme's new room.  So here we go...

An Evening with Papa Rex

Aaron and I went out Saturday night and Esme got to spend some time with her Papa Rex.  But before we go into that, take a look at his new glasses!  Don't they look sharp!
Wow, he's handsome!

I'm not sure they beat these glasses though.
When we got ready to go out, Esme and Papa set up a bed in front of the TV and watched the Disney movie Bolt.  Cricket found her spot right away.
They had a great time and Esme was happy on her floor bed. :)  Papa Rex is welcome to babysit any time!

Weird magic broom

It's getting close to the spring equinox.  I heard on the radio that people were standing brooms on end, so I decided to try it.  It worked!
Cinder even was checking it out!
